Paying for care
After you have a received a care assessment the local council will decide which care services they will offer you. They will then conduct a financial assessment.
This is also known as a means test. This means test will work out what you have to pay for your care, if anything. You may have to contribute towards the cost of your care or the council may pay some or all of your care.
This mean test works by you providing information about your income and savings. From there the council will then be able to see what you have to pay.
There are different criteria set out for what you have to pay depending upon which bracket you are in. You can find out more information about these brackets by contacting your local social services department.
It is important to note that your local authority will only pay out for community care services, help around the home and things like that.
However, some disabilities, long term conditions, injuries or complex medical conditions can mean you are eligible for NHS Continuing Care Funding.
Do not be put off by needing to pay for your care. Just remember that the care you receive will help you live in your home for a lot longer. It will allow you to be more independently and also safer in your home.
