What are direct payments?

Your local authority may agree  to fund your care either in full or part of it. Then you will be offered the choice of either the council providing the services directly to you or receiving direct payments from the councils.  You can also arrange to pay  for the care yourself, this is known as receiving direct payments.

To receive direct payments firstly, you need to contact your local council or trust and ask them to assess your care needs.

How much money you will receive depends on your financial circumstances and you may need to top up the amount with your own money.

The way direct payments work is by the council giving you money for your care and then you choosing which care provider you would like to use.

You can then pay for your care with the money that the council provides. Just remember, the council must be happy that the money they provide is going towards a legitimate care need, this money can not be spent on any old thing.

Direct payments are great because they allow you to have complete control over your care. You have a lot of options out there to choose from and so having the option to choose is always a wonderful thing.

We hope that this article about direct payments helped you understand them a little better. If you did find this article helpful then please do explore our website further. There is plenty of information on here about this topic and many more.
